Sheltering with Family Promise
Redeemer is partnering with Family Promise to periodically provide shelter in our facility to families in need. Our next time to host is February 10-17. We need your help to give these families a safe and welcoming atmosphere!
What is Family Promise?
Family Promise is a non-profit agency that provides a community response to family homelessness. Families in the program rotate weekly among the host congregations. Family Promise also collaborates with social service agencies to meet the families’ needs.
What is our role?
We have committed to provide safe, overnight accommodations, home-cooked meals, gracious hospitality, and a place where guest can maintain their dignity.
2 per night | Drop off meals by 5:30pm
Prepare hot meal for families and dinner hosts. (number of guests TBD but around 12-15)
Dinner Hosts & Evening Hosts
1 family or 2 volunteers per night, 5:45 - 7:15pm
May be part of dinner preparation team. Dinner is informal. Eat and socialize with guests. After dinner, hosts may conduct children’s activities, help with homework, or assist a guest with a particular need.
Saturday Activity Hosts
2 volunteers to prepare full breakfast, 9:00am – 12:00pm
2 volunteers each to take families on an outing if they choose or stay with guests at Redeemer or at the Family Promise Center (11:00am - 2:00pm & 2:00 - 5:30pm)
8 volunteers to set up Sunday Noon – 2:00pm and Clean-up the following Sunday 7:00– 8:30am
Volunteers will make beds, preparing rooms for our guests which arrive at 5:30pm.
2 volunteers each shift
Stay with guests at the Family Promise Center (9:00am - Noon-if they choose not to attend church, Noon - 3:00pm, 3:00 - 5:00pm
2 volunteers per night, preferably a man and a woman, 8:30pm – 7:00am
Two hosts spend the night at Redeemer, help older children with homework and are available in case of emergency. They wake guests at 6:00am.
