Wednesday | Week 6
What stands out to me in this story is how the people’s assumptions and pre-conceived ideas about the Messiah completely blind them to the truth that was right in front of them. The very thing they were waiting for was right there, and they didn’t even see it. So many of them were convinced they knew exactly how the Messiah would arrive, or where He would come from – I’m sure, a mixture of their understanding of scripture and assumption. The problem, in this instance, was they held their own traditions and version of the story so closely, they couldn’t receive the TRUTH when it was with them.
We do this too though, don’t we? Maybe not as blatantly as this, but we certainly have all picked up certain ideas about the nature of Christ, and the way He works in the world. I know I have been in plenty of situations before, convinced God wasn’t in it, only to realize later, He absolutely was.
I couldn’t see it because it didn’t fit my idea of the way I thought He would work.
Let’s take some time today to just sit and be still before the Lord. Let’s ask God to show us if there are places in our lives where He is right in front of us, but we have missed Him. Let’s ask Him to show us if there are things that we have come to believe about Him and the way He works in the world, or even about ourselves, that are not completely true or correct. And let’s boldly ask Jesus to forgive us and to replace those lies with truth! Take several minutes to sit with these questions and give God space and time to speak.
I want us to close out this time thinking on these two words: CLEAR VISION.
Spend some time just letting those words roll around your mind and heart.
May we be people who always see with clear vision.
