BE BOLD
July 7, 2019 | Wopsle
The truth of how we are to respond when God says "Go" is incredibly simple...we go. Wopsle challenges us in this by looking at two different responses to this truth—those of Philip and Ananias.
MESSAGE NOTES
BE BOLD | Acts | Week 7 | July 7, 2019
Acts 8:1 NIV
And Saul approved of their killing him.
Acts 8:26-31 NIV
Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.
“How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
When God says to go, we should go.
Acts 8:38-39 NIV
And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.
Acts 9:1 NIV
Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples.
Acts 9:10-15 NIV
In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!” “Yes, Lord,” he answered. The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.” “Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem. And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.” But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel.
Sometimes boldness means speaking out.
Sometimes boldness means stepping out.
1 Corinthians 3:6 NIV
I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.
We need to strive to be better gardeners.
