Week 1

JESUS IS MORE

March 8, 2020 | Tim Mannin

What Jesus did with a small contribution of 5 loaves and 2 fish was miraculous. He showed us that he doesn't need big contributions from us to do big things. Tim Mannin, Lead Pastor at OKC Community Church, reminds us that Jesus wants to use small, surrendered people to do the biggest things imaginable.

Mark 6:34-37 NIV

When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things. By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” But he answered, “You give them something to eat.” They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?”

John 6:7-11 NIV

Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!" Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.

I’m not looking for big people who can do big things. I’m looking for people who know they are small and surrender to me with all that they have, so that I can use them in the biggest of ways.

Matthew 10:7-8 NIV

As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

John 6:35 NIV

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Psalm 107:9 NIV

for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

Matthew 19:26 NIV

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
