Teacher: Pastor Leanne Benton LOVE Each Other NOTES John 15:12-13
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. Love each other… as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. “To love someone is to will their good, to promote their flourishing – and sometimes that means laying something down.” ~ Dallas Willard
1 - The model of love Jesus gives. 2 - The meaning of laying down our life. 3 - The mission of love.
1 - The model of love Jesus gives. “Jesus didn’t love in general. He loved in particular.” ~John Ortberg A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. (John 13:34-35)
2 - The meaning of laying down our life. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God…humbled himself, becoming obedient to death — even death on a cross. (Philippians 2:5-8) I have told you this so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. (John 15:11)
3 - The mission of love. You are my friends if you do what I command. (John 15:14) This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for one another. (I John 3:16)
