James 1:13-14 NIV

When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.

Lord, protect me from myself.

Psalm 141:4 NIV

Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil, to take part in wicked deeds with men who are evildoers; let me not eat of their delicacies.

1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Deliverance is preceded by resistance. Effective resistance is preceded by submission to God.

James 4:7 NIV

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Matthew 26:41 NIV

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak”

Kayla Canfield

Matthew 6:13 NIV

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

The evil one is not God’s opposite.

Genesis 3:15 NIV

And I will put enmitybetween you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.

Matthew 26:38 NIV

My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.

Matthew 26:39 NIV

My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.

N.T. Wright

This is what obedience looks like when it stares evil in the face.

1. We need to be reminded every day that following Jesus is hard.
2. Our deliverance is already and not yet.
3. We declare victory over evil.

N.T. Wright

To pray ‘deliver us from the evil one’ is to inhale the victory of the cross.

Matthew 6:9-13 NIV

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
